Beans. In order for the beans to become tasty, they are cooked slowly with patience. You put it on the stove and forget about it. When I was little, my mum, older brother, dad, and I used to go to the vineyard on days off. My dad had built a little cottage there: a small vestibule and a room. In front of the vestibule there was a shed with a brick stove. My mum used to put the pot of beans on the end of the stove – she used to put it where the fire was the weakest and there wasn’t any danger of the pot cracking. The beans used to simmer in the pot all day. I was so little that I don’t remember how she used to prepare it. I only remember that it was very delicious.

The beans will stay in the pot of water, and the pot – over the fireplace. It will swell by morning.
